over to the Sonic in Palestine to cruise around there. It was beautiful Texas weather warm and sunny no I mean rainy, no sunny, no rainy, well you get the picture. What fun to able to share with so many folks the scenery and beauty of our country on this cruise that seemed to last only a couple of minutes for me. Over the lakes and highways everyone flew (did the speed limit I mean). **I must say as much as I like curvy roads this day was filled with way too many for me. So many in fact that I had to close my eyes and just snap pictures out of the window, ahh now I can look. After the little drive ~wink~ up ahead, a secluded gated community beckoned everyone on. If you weren’t on the list you did not enter. Hows that for making you feel very special and super lucky to be there. Everyone enjoyed the unique visit to the Garage of Jerry Ball, whom we can not thank enough. Truly cool, this down to earth regular everyday guy (kinda like Phil) opened his doors to us. The number of cars to see was unbelievable, well let me just say it was a car nut’s ideal dream
to roam among the rows of shining beauties, not to mention the awesome “engine” room. Some of the automobiles there included Babe Ruth’s Packard, Sly Stalone’s Cobra, and the Virgra Nascar(I have to mention a few just to be the name dropper that I am}**We spent a night in “Little Hollywood” in the Ann Bancroft room, no less. Any way on with the private collection... Amazingly some of cars had as few as 4 miles on the odometer, would you believe a car that hadn't been driven except from assembly line onto the rolling parking lot truck then the sale lot, to a trailer to a garage where it waited to be purchased by Mr. Ball. (I can make this up cause my imagination is sometimes vivid). Jerry, if I may call him that-ok I will, is somewhat fond of Corvettes as some of the pictures on the Old Farts Sports Car Club Web site shows, he has a few of them lining the concrete. A big giant Old Farts THANK YOU goes out to Jerry. We will see you again-pretty please- and I better be able to meet ya next time!
The never ending hunger bug hits the bellies of several Old Farts and as some of yall may know meat is on the list. Good Ol’ Texas steak. **While I have sandwich after sandwich driving down the loneliest highway in America, but thats another day and a different story. Did you see all the smiling faces at the tables in the Cotton Patch Restaurant? If not take a gander at the pictures it kinda makes me feel like I was there. Good eating and I heard not one single complaint about the service. Some folks sure know how to make a bunch of Old Farts feel welcome. Sorry for the lack of phone service on my end we missed y’all and steak.**I missed this cruise to Palestine. My family and I were cruising
around on vacation. On the 3rd we were in Utah, a very lovely state. Let me recommend that you all visit Mount Zion, just up the road from Little Hollywood (Kanab). I will confess no one has as good a chicken fried steak as we do here in Texas so order something else off the menu when you go there. We had a wonderful time on our little trek west. Lets see… we went to New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona and home. I love TEXAS! There is no place like home, except maybe the Rhode Inn in Springerville AZ, they have my pillow still.See ya
