Presidental Cruise

Sunlight was fast approaching, my dreaming drew to an end as I woke on a day that was, it was… well let me just say it was so humid we didn’t need rain because the air itself dripped. I was looking forward to seeing all my peps in the Texas Old Farts Sports Car Club. So the plan was that some of the members were coming down to Conroe to meet up with folks in the Conroe Cruiser’s Car Club and then drive up to the Chicken Oil Co. in College Station. It worked out pretty well. Here’s what happened…
.
We meet at the Kroger on Highway 105 and Loop 336, there were lots of cars and people, after all the cars had to get there somehow. We meandered about and visited a while with a lot of ‘em. {people that is} We took some photos, gathered supplies {water} and gas, and then we headed west on 105. As we passed Lake Conroe we saw a few boats out on the water. It was still early and a little overcast, but we expected clear skies and sunshine. It was a very pleasant drive. The dark winter green of the pines were deep and could be readily seen through the bare branched oak trees. We took a right in Dobbin to cruise on the back roads. We were traveling pretty much alone on the highway by then. I laughed to myself when I noticed the sleepy cattle pick up their heads to watch us pass. It must have been the rude intrusion our growling engines and the hum of tires that made them lift their heads from quite pillows of soft tan grass. That’s when I noticed the rust colored brush; frost burnt black weeds and abundant red berry bushes that dotted our Texas landscape. Barbara, riding shotgun, must have thought I was a nut {oh well what’s new?} Before I knew it we had made our way to Anderson and were smack dab in front of their beautiful courthouse, Barbara snapped a photo just in time—I found my gas peddle and off we went. College Station was just ahead.
.
Having made our way to Chicken Oil Co. we found a place to park, got out to admire all the hundreds of shinny cars that were there and in all the surrounding parking lots and in all the streets. Heck it could have been thousands {math is not my forte ya know}. We had reservations at the Texas Roadhouse and couldn’t stay long.
.
Once we arrived at the restaurant we waited a bit to be seated at our tables and soon after that our waitress’ took the orders. The conversation, laugher and not to mention peanuts, begin to fly and float around the tables. After too much food and a good visit we moaned and groaned our ways out of the chairs. Our full bellies needed a bit of exercise and our destination was still ahead of us. Some of our members had to leave and couldn’t go the rest of the way but now I think maybe, just maybe, they are sorry to have missed this great photo opportunity. After all who doesn’t want their photograph taken in the Oval Office or in the arms of a Chinese Soldier or perhaps sitting next to President Bush?
On to the Bush Presidential Library and Museum we drove, it is located on the campus of Texas A & M. Yes right there in the middle of Aggie Land. They must have been expecting us, as a short film was just about to begin. We seated ourselves and everyone {even me} was quite while the lady explained a bit about the film and then it started. I was still quite and remained so during the whole film {really!}. Anyway I learned a few things about George W. Bush (daddy Bush if you will) and Barbara. The museum had just been remodeled and looked great; this is its tenth anniversary. Very interesting stuff, they even had a piece of the Berlin Wall. You can see lots of photos over here. The volunteers and employees were very nice and helpful. If you have a Presidential Library and Museum near your home or even in your state, you should go. Forget party affiliation y’all, it is history people—history!
.
After closing time we packed up and headed over to our fearless leader’s shop, where we enjoyed a nice snack of cheese and crackers, ice cream {Blue Bell} and pie. There was pool to play as well as dominoes and this teeny tiny helicopter. Before long the sun was beginning to set and we had to head on back home. So until next time…
.
See y’all
